Bonsai

Bonsai is the aesthetic growing of trees or plants in pots or other kinds of containers. The trees are kept small for ornamental purposes, and may be raised for decades, with their shapes adjusted by pruning and the use of wire to bend branches and trunks.

Due to the engaging appearance of their trunks and branches, pine trees are the most representative form of bonsai. However, there are other types that include cherry, plum and Japanese maple trees, plus even more that stress appreciation for flowers, fruit or leaves. Bonsai became a popular side business for samurai during the Edo Period (17 -19th centuries). Bonsai fanciers are numerous even today.

Bonsai expresses majestic nature in its small pots, and it is said that when you look at bonsai, you will be healed as if you were in the forest.
