Magewappa

Magewappa

Magewappa has been made for 400 years in Akita prefecture, a prefecture located in the North of Japan. These handmade products are made using natural, high quality Akita cedar. Rice maintains its quality and food retains more flavor when stored in a magewappa. Enjoy the beautiful grain and color of cedar wood, with an elegant scent and traditional design.

Magewappa, a cultural heritage, made at Kurikyu, a long-established workshop.

The Kurikyu (栗久)is long-established workshop in Odate, Akita prefecture and its Magewappa is a cultural gem. Their Magewappa has a soft-to-the-touch outside finish, and the inside is simple plain wood. Eating rice from it gives a subtle scent of Akita cedar and it is designed to remove both heat and excess moisture. The thick top lid prevents condensation, and the bottom plate is fitted for durability.
