Woodblock Print Shop "Sakai KOKODO"
Sakai KOKODO was founded in 1870 and is the oldest Ukiyo-e printmaker in Japan. Due to its long history, each print still expresses the subtle colors and hues of the original paintings. Providing a rare window into Japan’s artistic past.
The 7th generation Yoshiyoshi Sakai has deepened his friendship with famous ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Hiroshige Utagawa since he was young, and has kept many ukiyo-e paintings since that time. Many works have been exhibited at Ukiyo-e exhibitions both in Japan and overseas.
Currently, their works are exhibited at Ukiyo-e Museum in Matsumoto, Nagano, and Sakai KOKODO is operated as an official shop of the Ukiyo-e Museum.
